Field Hack: Locate NGS Survey Markers and Map them in Google Earth

Thursday, February 26, 2009

The brilliant blogger(s) over at Free Geography Tools have stumbled upon a really useful web application that lets you query a database of National Geodetic Survey markers, and returns a KML file to display them in Google Earth (note: earlier versions of DS World may have problems with Google Earth 5, but the newest one works fine). Its called NGS Control Stations (NGSCS) Radial Search. Despite the name, it allows search by three different areal selection methods:

  • County
  • Radial search from a latitude/longitude center point
  • Rectangular search from a latitude/longitude center point
Web form is straightforward!   Take a look at instructions at

Into the Future: Waiting on the Right Wind to blow....PART 1

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Waiting on the Right Wind to blow.....Yeah you might say we have been waiting on the right wind to blow to start blogging about the future events of  Palmetto Equipment and Supply. Since the middle of last year we have been working hard with GES Global Energy Solutions based out of Spain, with equipping and now managing the start up of Windmill Farms. A spin off division of PES, Palmetto Construction Management or PCM has been formed, and staffed with specialist to assist the start up of several projects all over the United States. Just finished a project in Texas and now it looks like we could be starting up a new project every month.

PCM will handle the takeoffs of each project, which will provide the volumes and site calculations. Then all the surveying, layout and stake out of the project, and all the site prep. Plus all the Grading and leveling preparations for all the roads and pads for the Windmills to be erected upon.
We are very excited to be part of this new era, and part of a team that's working towards reducing the dependency of foreign Oil products.

Stay tuned for Part 2: How You Can Get Involved in Your State
